Saturday 19th April, RECORD STORE DAY 2014 is finally here.
To celebrate this special day for all independent record stores, we chose our 5 favourite releases of this year’s RSD.
Label: Late Night Tales
Simon Green, better known as Bonobo covers Donovan‘s Get Thy Bearings featured on last year’s Late Night Tales series. The track also features Szjerdene on the vocals. Soulful, downtempo and jazzy. The instrumental version of the song can also be found on this special release for RSD.
Label: Other People
Nicolas Jaar is a very collaborative musician as we all know. This time he collaborates with Sasha Spielberg, daughter of Steven Spielberg, under the name Just Friends. Their second release since last year’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s Avalanche. If you are still not convinced think about the heavyweight pink 10″ vinyl. Limited to 250 copies.
Daniel Lopatin is a powerhouse when it comes to sonic art. Commissions 1 is a collection of previously unreleased material featuring commissioned pieces for artworks, performance and film. This release was mastered by Bedroom Community’s Valgeir Sigurðsson. Limited to 500 copies for UK and Ireland.
Label: Captured Tracks
Now that’s a dream team! Dustin Payseur of Beach Fossils, Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing and Andreas Lagerström of Holograms joined forces and released two tracks, Memory Loss and Joy Of Life, under the moniker The Snow.
Very limited edition of 150 copies.
Jon Hopkins teamed up with Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes and worked together on the song Garden’s Heart written for the soundtrack of How I Live Now. This special release features the song of the film on one side and a hand-drawn etching on the other side. Limited to 500 copies.
