Powder – Humid Wind | WEEKID TRACKS
Highly, is Powder’s new EP, recently released on Lovefingers’ brilliant “ESP Institute”. Label-boss, Andrew Hogge (Lovefingers) is a DJ who’s gigged extensively in all corners of the world. Through his travels he’s built a strong reputation behind the decks and an impressive global network of DJs and producers. Over the years these connections have allowed artists to contribute towards ESP’s truly international catalogue that is unique in being indefinable by any single sound, place or scene, yet is able to remain entirely coherent as a body of work.
A testament to the power of Hogge’s global network in uncovering new talent, ESP new-comer, Powder is a recently emerging DJ and producer from Tokyo. In terms of releases, her production career began only earlier this year with her EP Spray, released by Stockholm’s “Born Free records”. However, after providing a guest mix for NTS in August and being the opening act for a Mood Hut showcase in Tokyo, it would seem that she is tipped for exciting things.
“Humid Wind” is a standout track taken from the record’s B-side. Fitting with the track’s title, warm chords accompanied by a subtle low-fi haze, breeze through the track, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of long and lazy summer days. With a catchy melody and playful bassline throughout, this is one for zoning-out to in the midst of a cold winter, longing for the summer. With Highly being as enjoyable as her debut, I look forward to hearing what’s next.
